Habitat for Humanity builds strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Habitat for Humanity doesn’t give away homes. We partner with families to build or rehabilitate a home. The family helps throughout the process and they eventually buy the home from Habitat.
Families apply for our program and are selected based on their need for adequate house, ability to repay on a mortgage and their willingness to partner with Habitat. Once a family is selected for a home they help in the construction by volunteering 350 hours of “sweat equity.” Throughout the construction we rely as much as possible on volunteer labor and donated building materials. When the construction is finished and the family completes their sweat equity we are ready to sell the home.
CWHFH sells all of its homes at Fair Market Value. If a partner family cannot afford that, we provide subsidies so that they can. Depending on the family’s financial circumstances we help our partner families secure low interest financing from a third party, or in some instances are are able to offer a zero-percent mortgage financed by CWHFH.
Our goal is decent and affordable housing. All of our partner families have an affordable monthly payment on a mortgage that they can mange for a home that they own.
Equal Housing Opportunity statement: We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.
