The Weidlein/Barclay Beautification Project is an effort to improve the Weidlein Plan/Barclay Plan neighborhood and increase its connection to the neighboring downtown commercial district of Greensburg. There are three primary elements of the plan, each led by one of the project partners. Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity (CWHFH) will provide no-cost residential beautification projects to owner-occupied and long-term rental homes. Additionally, Habitat for Humanity will organize and oversee community driven improvement projects in Coulter Playground. Along with the park improvements Latrobe Art Center (LAC) will commission and oversee the installation of a unique, interactive public art sculpture in Coulter Playground. Finally, Greensburg Community Development Corporation (GCDC) will launch Walk Greensburg, a walkability initiative designed to encourage residents to take advantage of neighborhood resources in Weidlein Plan, Barclay Plan, and the neighboring downtown commercial district. This collaborative approach will allow us to better respond to community aspirations with an expanded array of services and partnerships, empowering residents to revive their neighborhood and enhance their quality of life. The work of building communities is about connecting neighbors to one another and nurturing the ties that sustain relationships. Habitat’s decades of work has shown us that individuals and families thrive when they have a safe and stable home in a safe and stable community.
